This is a question I am asked frequently. Recently,
I told someone I was a therapist. He said that it sounded like I was being evasive. If I said, “I am a Registered and Licensed Occupational Therapist and Registered Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapist (OTR/L, RCST®)”, would that have explained it or left his mouth to drop open with all of those syllables and alphabet soup?
With 30+ years of professional experience + intuition, magic and a little luck, I combine a variety of gentle manual therapy techniques* all designed to calm the tissues and nervous system.
*(These include Craniosacral Therapy, myofascial release, joint distraction, soft tissue mobilization and neural-tension releases.)
Okay, But What Exactly am I
DOING? Mostly, I am helping to create an atmosphere to help your body slow down long enough to allow calmness and balance through the
Long Tide, or
Primary Respiration (1°).
When you are experiencing the
Long Tide, your perception can expand beyond the boundaries of
your body into a Panoramic Awareness of the
Stillness.
Like the mountains, you can move, yet hold a beautiful stillness.
Helping you to sense that, I guess, is what I do.
