Please indulge me some memories as my son, my only child turns 21 today. He was so tiny that I remember being afraid that he would fly out of my hands like a slippery bar of soap during his first baths. I remember beautiful moments of calm in the middle of the night
(and some not so calm moments)! Guess I'd better not embarrass him with any more memories.
If I only knew
then what I know now!
What I
Do know, is that babies desire a Slow pace, and that is often
not how things go during labor, delivery and the moments following birth. Some babies settle into their own pace without difficulty. Other babies need some help to slow down and sometimes to 're-tell' the story of their birth. This may be include cries, heat release from the head, movement or stillness. I always give a verbal or non-verbal apology to the baby for anything they experienced during or after their birth.
This can be very soothing to their nervous systems.
The slowing process is important for all ages.
Together, we can effect this by creating an atmosphere and intention to help your body slow down to allow calmness and balance through the
Long Tide,
Primary Respiration (1°) , the slow rhythm of healing and restoration. This is a way to calm the tissues and nervous system at any age.
Here are just a few photos from my gallery of babies:
